a Latino supply the United States with nuclear and space technology?
TRIVIA
Maria Estela, his wife, was his college sweetheart and is his
life partner. |
Dr.
Miguel Rios Jr., through a company established in Albuquerque, New
Mexico and facilities in 6 other cities, supplies many United States
government offices and several private corporations with engineering
and development services, including energy, space and information
technologies in addition to testing and evaluating nuclear weapons
and counterproliferation.
Dr.
Rios was born in El Paso, Texas on July 18, 1941. His family was
from Mexico with roots in the states of Jalisco and Chihuahua.
FAMILY
Three children, Miguel III, graduated from Stanford; Eva Angelica,
from Hunter College, New York; and Magdalena, from the University
of Tulane. |
He
received his PhD in Physics from the University of Maryland in 1971
and led a post-doctoral research in nuclear astrophysics from Cal-Tech.
After
working for nearly a decade in Sandia National Labs on defense,
nuclear energy and sun energy, he joined his wife Maria Estela,
who had graduated in chemistry and mathematics, to create a company
engaged in promoting state of the art technology and research and
development services with a customer service oriented culture of
quality.
Thus
ORION International Technologies was founded in 1985, pledged to
a rebirth of the best of the Meso-American tradition for applying
science through innovative development and application of new technologies:
for the security and benefit of mankind, for a better future for
all.
The
key to success is discipline, self-respect and commitment
to education.

Today,
the record of excellence of the company managed by the Rios couple
involves the Road Runner Quality Award and a recognition as the
National Prime Contractor of the Year granted in 1999
by the U.S. Small Business Administration.
Dr.
Rios was appointed Distinguished Professor of Physics and Distinguished
Alumnus of the Cal State University at Los Angeles. He has been

statewide and nationwide. He has lectured on Photovoltaic Cells
in Mexico and Central America as a representative of the International
Communications Agency of the United States.
HIS
BEST ACHIEVEMENT

for everything he received from it. |
In
1992 he was selected the Hispanic Engineer Businessman of the Year
and in 1999 he was awarded recognition as the National Minority
Businessman of the Year.
He
and his wife Maria Estela Rios were granted an Award of Entrepreneurship

All
the awards and achievements have been possible because the
most important quality I got from my family, rooted in Mexican culture,
is self-esteem. Because of self-esteem I have always been proud
of myself, my culture and my family.
Miguel Rios,
an example of the best of the latin spirit.
